ART

At Imani, Art is a subject taught to students from Pre-K age through Middle School and Twelfth Grade.  The art classes at the younger ages focus more on shapes, colors, the use of new materials, and new techniques. They learn to use and incorporate many common things into art making.

Things change at third grade and higher for all art classes. Students begin to study the lives and works of many artists throughout time.  Students also study art vocabulary, art techniques, discuss the impacts of art and the role of an artist. There's an importance placed on African-American artists, their works, and their stories. Students will discuss the impacts and contributions made, and how it's helped shape the culture.

The goal is for the students to be able to try new things, learn about a variety of artists, and gain a greater appreciation for the arts.
