Ecclesiastes 3:1 reads, "To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." For Imani Christian Academy, June is graduation season. It is a time to gather, a time to celebrate, and a time to give thanks. On June 4, 2023, a procession of Imani Christian Academy seniors walked by cheering family members, proud teachers and joyous friends and onto a sun-drenched UPMC Graham Field. In the warmth of that day, wearing their mortarboard caps, they were encouraged by the words of their Valedictorian, inspired by their graduation speaker, Derrick Tillman, and celebrated by a crowd of supporters. For each of these students, the receipt of their diploma marked the final step in a journey. For some, the journey was the realization of a parent's dream. For others, it was the launching pad to new aspirations. For a few, it was a defining personal achievement. For all, it symbolized hope and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. As the last strain of pomp and circumstance played, mortarboard hats were propelled into that bright, blue sky. And for these seniors, class was finally dismissed. Congratulations Class of 2023!
