Imani buys school for $1 million |

The city school board Wednesday night accepted a $1 million bid from the Imani Christian Academy for the former East Hills Elementary School.
Imani officials said afterward they intend to move into the school by next fall.
"This will give us a much greater physical presence in the community," Imani founder and board co-chair Bishop Donald Clay said. "We're trying to enhance the area physically as well as spiritually."
In accepting the bid in an 8-0 vote, the board acted against a policy established 30 years ago of not selling closed schools to competitors.
School board member Thomas Sumpter favored selling the property to Imani in part because the school takes students from Pittsburgh Public Schools and other districts. Click here to read full article |
